Alex Smith '25 named national merit Commended Student
The Dunham School is proud to announce that the National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC®) has named senior Alex Smith a National Merit Commended Student based on his strong performance on the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT®).
Out of the approximately 1.3 million high school seniors who entered the 2025 National Merit Scholarship Program by taking the PSAT/NMSQT in the fall of their junior year, only about 34,000 have been recognized as Commended Students. Although Commended Students do not continue in the competition for National Merit Scholarships, some may be candidates for special scholarships offered by corporate sponsors. NMSC will notify those candidates in November 2025.
NMSC was established in 1955 specifically to conduct the annual National Merit Scholarship Program. Scholarships are underwritten by NMSC with its own funds and by approximately 280 business organizations, high education institutions, and individual donors that share NMSC’s goals of honoring the nation’s scholastic champions and encouraging the pursuit of academic excellence.
