Twenty-five Dunham students have been nationally recognized as 2023 Advanced Placement (AP) Scholars by the College Board based on their outstanding performances on Advanced Placement (AP) exams.
Congratulations to the 14 current Dunham students who received academic distinctions for their AP achievements: Samay Mirpuri ‘24, Adrian Raymond ‘24, and Kai Washington ‘24, AP Scholar with Distinction; Charles Dantin ‘24, Mason Elliot ‘24, and Mallory Golightly, AP Scholar with Honor; and Blake Beale ‘24, Ethan Courter ‘24, Katherine Harris ‘24, George Harrod ‘25, Wait Harrod ‘25, Emerson Lazarus ‘24, Claire McIlwain ‘24, and Houston Theriot ‘24, AP Scholar.
Eleven graduates from the Dunham Class of 2023 were also recognized for their AP achievements: Amelia Fargason ‘23 (Baylor University), Jackson Ford ‘23 (The University of Alabama), Kari Johnson ‘23 (United States Military Academy at West Point), Caylin Pixley ‘23 (Mississippi College), Jake Rizzo ‘23 (United States Military Academy at West Point), and Rachel Stanger ‘23 (Vassar College), AP Scholar with Distinction; Reese Davis ‘23 (The University of Tennessee), AP Scholar with Honor; and Rhaia Davey ‘23 (Mississippi College), Elizabeth McDonald ‘23 (Samford University), Simone Riley (New York University), and Grace Robvais ‘23 (Washington University), AP Scholar.
In May 2023, 75 students sat for 138 AP exams with 81% earning a score of 3 or higher on a 5 point scale, making them eligible to receive college credit, upper-level placement, or both. The average score of all tests taken by Dunham students was 3.4.
“These scores send a strong message to college admissions officers that Dunham students are well prepared for success in their undergraduate programs,” said Upper School Director Amanda McIlwain. “Their strong performances on these AP exams reflects the quality of our teaching and the growth of our AP program.
Created by the College Board in 1955, the AP program is recognized far and wide as a standard of excellence in education. The Dunham School currently offers 25 AP courses for students who are ready to tackle the challenge of college-level work.
