Choir

The Dunham School Choir program is one with a rich history, which offers students opportunities to perform in a group as well as by themselves, in a variety of styles of music.

Middle School “Tiger Chorus”

This honor choir is for fifth through seventh grade students and is an auditioned group that rehearses on Wednesdays after school from 3:30-4:30. This auditioned group is the only middle school choir that has the opportunity to take field trips and perform in our community. This group also performs at all middle school choir concerts, open houses, Tiger Carnival, and Book Fair.

Fifth Grade Choir Description

The fifth grade choir is a rotating per nine weeks course. These students are introduced to the elements of vocal music including posture, breath support, correct vowel placement, some music history, and musical literacy in note naming and rhythms. This group primarily will sing unison music, and will learn what it means to work together as a choir to create one unified sound.

Sixth Grade Choir Description

Like the fifth grade choir, the sixth grade choir is a rotating per nine weeks course. These students continue to be introduced to the elements of vocal music including posture, breath support, correct vowel placement, music history, and music literacy in note naming and rhythms. These students will begin to learn solfege as a tool for music literacy. These students will be challenged with two-part music and beginning harmonization with the voice.

Seventh Grade Choir Description

This course, rotating every nine weeks, continues to develop the skills learned in fifth and sixth grade choir. The seventh grade choir begins to perform with the eighth grade choir, and is challenged with a more varied amount of choral literature and harmonization.

Eighth Grade Choir Description

Although this is only a semester course, rotating with drama, our goal is to make this a year-long course which teaches music literacy and independence through sight reading, successful performances, and fun choral literature.
